MUTUAL FUND README 10-19-2010 This system will work on Windows XP/Vista This Mutual Fund system is comprised of the following programs: mutfdeny - enter data to the system mutfdmat - maintenance mutfdscr - scrolls fund items on the screen mutfdsrt - sort the fund items mutualfx - fixes bad records mutfdprt - prints a list of the funds Be warned that some of these programs will not work and give ridiculous errors until a couple of dozen records are entered. The sort being one of them. These programs should be put in a folder of your choosing. A good choice would be "mutualfd". The funds are sorted by fund name then YYMMDD. EX: Wellington, 20050130 Any dollar amounts entered must fill the field. If the dollar amount is smaller than the space allocated then leading zeros must be entered. No decimal points should be entered in the dollar fields. The last two digits of a dollar field entered are implied decimal values. The SHARE field does not always have a value to enter in the Mutfdmat program so enter zeros in the field. The normal procedure for using this system would be to enter x number of items through the "mutfdent" program. Then run "mutfdsrt" to sort the items. Then run "mutfdscr" to look at what you have done on the screen. Errors can be fixed using the "mutfdmat" or the "mutualfx" programs. Personally I use the "mutfdmat" to fix my errors. Look for the bad record on the "mutfdscr" program and write down the Fund Name and date. This data can be used to redo the record with "mutfdmat" be entering the fund name and date. The Day, Month, Century/Year are NOT checked for a valid Day/Month/Year. It is your responsibility to enter the correct values. Since I do not have the facilities to test every printer on the market, the print programs might cause a problem. Make sure your printer is turned on. If you have more than one printer listed in the "Control Panel/Printers", then it is possible for this program to pick up the wrong printer. There is a lot of information on the web about problems with the default printer being changed by programs and this will play havoc with the Mutual Fund print program. It is possible to temporarily delete a printer and add it back after using the Mutual Fund program. Another possibility (if you have more than 1 printer showing) is to point to the printer you want as default and right click on it. Then in the window that comes up click on "make default printer". My HP Officejet PRO L7580 won't print the Mutual Fund data if there is a fax printer shown in the add printer box(Start/settings/printer). Since Faxes can be done from the printer panel, I deleted it and the Mutual Fund print then worked. This system could in a pinch keep records of stocks but that is not what it was designed to do. To uninstall these programs just delete the folder that contains them. These programs do not affect any other programs.
